Springfield Public Schools is dedicated to retaining, supporting and recruiting the best teachers, leaders and staff to meet the needs of students. Identifying potential vacancies for the upcoming school year as early as possible helps SPS fill these positions with qualified candidates.

The deadline to request the $500 incentive is Wednesday, March 5, 2025.
Friday, May 23, 2025 Calendar Clarification
The last day of school will be a full day. There are some calendars in print that show the last day of school as a two-hour early release, including the 2024-2025 Student Handbook. 25-26 Scheduling Events
Westport K-Prep Scheduling: March
It is very important that children who may be attending school at Westport as a KINDERGARTEN student, start participating in school communication very soon.
I know it is hard to believe, but we are currently working on next year's class schedules and homerooms. When planning for our enrollment, it is challenging to ensure we have the correct number of KINDERGARTEN teachers, when they only show up after school starts. This delay in enrollment can cause very crowded classrooms, and sometimes delays in hiring qualified teachers. If you know of a family in our community with a school age child, please encourage them to start communicating with their local schools NOW!
WHY is early scheduling important? When students complete their schedule requests, they are used to build the next year schedule, including how many teachers are necessary for the building, and how many offerings/seats are available for students in classes.

Read Across America Week READING CHALLENGE
In our continued effort to support the SPSRead2Succeed challenge and focus on increasing literacy scores, we are excited to announce a special reading challenge for Read Across America Week!
From Monday, March 3rd through Friday, March 7th, each elementary homeroom class will work together to read as many books as possible. This includes books read in class (homeroom, special education, Title 1, and specials), books students read independently at school, and books read at home with parent confirmation!
Please encourage your student to read at least 30 minutes a night and then let their homeroom teacher know how many books they have completed each night!
All teachers, please keep track of read books HERE - HAPPY READING!
*totals will be a running count, so increase the number each time based on the numbers of books read.
The top 3 classes that read the most books will earn a snow cone party as a reward! Let’s all come together and make this a fun and engaging week to encourage reading across the school!
