We are excited to begin the hiring process for the 2025-2026 school year!

Please be aware that the INTERNAL TRANSFER window opens on JANUARY 3rd and will remain open for 10 days. Beginning on January 13th-23rd, 2025 we will be scheduling & conducting 1st posting interviews.

Here are more updates:

We have the following  position(s) posted in the building:

Teacher-ELA (8)

Teacher-Social Studies (7)

Teacher-Vocal Music

Expected Practices

To ensure a safe and productive learning environment, students should only be in classrooms where they are officially assigned. Having non-rostered students in classrooms can create challenges, including:
  • Attendance Accountability: Accurate tracking of attendance is essential.

  • Safety Concerns: In emergencies, it is critical to know where each student is scheduled to be.

  • Instructional Impact: Students may miss important instruction in their assigned classes or disrupt learning in others.

Please do not allow students to miss their scheduled classes unless absolutely necessary.

Assignment/Grade Posting Expectations

Middle School Team,

Since school began, we have been battling issues with the posting of grades.  It is imperative that ALL teachers are ensuring feedback on student work is posted for parent/student knowledge. ALL GRADES MUST BE COMPLETED IN CANVAS.

Please remember WESTPORT expectations on grading were provided to ALL staff at our kickoff week presentations.  Below are more specific for your reference.

Note: the referral must be completed in eduCLIMBER, not on the embedded docs. Below is the criteria for a referral to the TST in each of these areas:

  • Reading: Screened at-risk for dyslexia, one or more grade levels below on the Galileo Lexile, below basic on Galileo ELA Benchmark, or teacher professional judgement

  • Math: Below basic on Galileo, consistently below mastery on DCAs, consistently below mastery on CFAs, or teacher professional judgement

  • Behavior: Teacher professional judgement

  • Attendance: 83-87.9% attendance, 10-14 days absent, or teacher professional judgement

Inclement Weather School

In response to new state legislation, Springfield Public Schools will utilize an Alternative Method of Instruction (AMI) plan on days that school is canceled due to inclement weather or any other emergency this year. Utilizing AMI will allow student learning to continue from home and reduce the number of make-up days required. AMI instructional days count toward your student’s classwork and attendance.

We want to ensure every student is set up for success, so please be aware of the following:

  • During AMI days, teachers will communicate expectations to parents through Remind, SeeSaw and email.

  • Students will submit the completed packet information to the HOMEROOM teacher when returning to school.

  • Teachers will collect all completed sheets, and staple them to a printed class roster. Once all sheets are completed and stapled, please submit the stapled packets to the appropriate attendance secretary in the main office.

  • Please ensure you have additional copies available for any student who may have misplaced, or lost their assignments.

  • SPECIAL EDUCATION - Case Managers please work with homeroom teachers to ensure all of your students attendance is counted correctly. During AMI days, the delivery of special education and related services will be provided in accordance with the student's IEP outlined on Form G: Distance Learning Plan.

Staff & Student Spirit Week

Shop with A Hero

There is a possible opportunity for a few students to be selected to shop with a selected staff member.  If you are aware of a student who would benefit from this opportunity, please complete the form link below.  THIS IS SECRET, PLEASE DO NOT TELL the nominated students.

Operation Warm Shoe Event

Change to Note: 6th grade will no longer be included in the event. We will have a supply of shoes after the event and will match as many 6th grade students to the appropriate sizes and colors as possible.

A size mat and photo release forms will be in your mailbox on Monday.

  • To streamline the event as much as possible, please collect size estimates for each of your students before leaving for winter break. Consider incorporating it into a fun activity, such as using it to discuss numbers and measurements. Your size list can be placed in Deckard’s mailbox.

  • Photo release forms do not affect whether students get shoes, and should be brought with your class to the event.
